Life Works

Alonzo Saclag, a musician and dancer who earned a GAMABAS award in 2000, initiated the conversion of the Capitol Building into a museum and established the Lubugan branch of the National Museum. He formed the Kalinga Budong Dance Troupe as a means of conserving Kalinga culture and passing on his knowledge to younger generations in performing arts. In his life's work, Saclag aimed to revive and preserve the art of performing the gong or gangsa, along with his knowledge of traditional dance and art in Kalinga. In 1994, he donated his set of six gongs to the Philippine National Museum, which were displayed at an exhibition of “Anito: Paniniwala, Tradisyon, at Kabilang Buhay sa Hilagang Luzon” at the National Museum of Anthropology. Additionally, he acquired hectares of land in Lubuagan, Kalinga, renaming the village Awichon Cultural Village, and it was declared the Kalinga Centre for Culture and Arts by the NCAA in 2008
